PHAs Should Beware of Scammers
HUD Notice PIH 2009-12 (HA) requires each recipient of Recovery Act Capital Fund distributions to have a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number. Once PHAs have a DUNS number, they must then register their number with the federal government’s Central Contractor Registration (CCR) system. Scammers are contacting public housing agencies claiming that a PHA must pay a fee for activating its DUNS number before registering it with the CCR. This is not true. The issuance of DUNS numbers by Dun and Bradstreet is free, as is the registration of the numbers by CCR.
The Notice provides the following link to instructions for obtaining and registering a DUNS number: http://www.hud.gov/offices/adm/grants/

Additional information on the process can be found on the Office of Capital Improvements Recovery Act website at http://www.hud.gov/offices/pih/programs

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
In response to the national economic crisis, the U.S. Congress recently passed – and President Obama signed into law – the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, also known as the federal economic stimulus bill. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century and a historic opportunity to invest in the future. The bill contains billions of dollars in tax cuts. The “Making Work Pay” tax credit will provide a $400 cut for individuals making up to $75,000 per year, and $800 for families making up to $150,000. Letter From SWNAHRO President
Greetings to everyone in the Southwest Region of NAHRO,
Even though Spring is here. Once again there are many places across the nation that are experiencing some left over winter weather, some very severe. This has affected families, due to homes being destroyed and the threat of that continues. Do whatever you can in those areas or in your own to help the housing crisis that so many families are dealing with whether it be weather or economy.
I have some favors to request with the top one being – please talk to your incoming state president and ask for an appointment to one of the committees for Southwest NAHRO. Just as in your state organization, SW NAHRO is committee driven and those committees need people coming and working on issues to help strengthen our industry and to serve our membership. For some of you who are new to the industry or new to the NAHRO organization, let me tell you the committees that are available. We have Housing, Member Services, Commissioners, Community Revitalization and Development and Professional Development.
