Greetings from the Southwest NAHRO President

Southwest Friends and Family….

… This year has flown by quickly and has brought many changes in our industry and in our country.  With these changes in our industry, we are given the opportunity for improvement … but, as we all know, change always creates work!   So I know that you all have been just as busy as we have here in Louisiana at putting into place all those changes and improvements….. having that understanding makes me even more appreciative of the time and commitment you have given to Southwest NAHRO.  I truly believe that the “Southwest Region is the best in the Nation” and promise to do all that I can to further that view in the next two years.  If you haven’t discovered this already, you will find that I believe in leading by example… so I won’t ever ask you for anything I personally am not willing to commit to myself.  Many of you have already stepped up to the plate when I have called, and I can’t thank you enough for that.  That type of commitment is what makes it a pleasure to work with this group – I am really looking forward to the next two years!

Our first meeting together is right around the corner – we will be meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana - my home state – in the middle of Mardi Gras season…. so we are sure to have a good time!  I am looking forward to seeing you all in January …  to “Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez”…. Let the good times roll!

Katie Anderson,
SWNAHRO President

Commissioners' Corner
Moving Forward
Fred Wesley, VP of Commissioners, Louisiana
New Iberia Housing Authority

We in Louisiana have seen and been affected by damages of recently past hurricanes—Katrina, Rita, Ike, and Gustav.  Additionally,  many of us have a family member or close friend that is housed in various housing units. Simply put, we have deep firsthand knowledge of our problems, and “we just want to do the right thing” to fix them.

Updating the e-mail address of every commissioner so as to network with each other on a regular basis, share information and discuss best practices is a beginning.  From there we must identify and go after new funding sources,
Advocacy at all levels is our urgent responsibility in this endeavor, as is our support of staff in crafting proposals and applications to obtain funding. More>>
